Bala Gnanam is Vice President, Sustainability, Advocacy & Stakeholder Relations at the Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA Canada). A seasoned professional with more than two decades of experience across the energy, commercial real estate, and manufacturing sectors, Bala is widely recognized for his leadership in advancing sustainability, climate action, and high-performance building practices at the national level.
Bala holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Demand Side Manager (CDSM)
In his capacity at BOMA Canada, Bala leads the organization's advocacy agenda, engaging with federal, provincial, and municipal governments, regional BOMA associations, and a broad range of industry stakeholders to shape policies and programs that define the operating environment for Canada's commercial real estate sector. He is also responsible for the development of educational resources, thought leadership initiatives, and industry programs that advance energy efficiency, sustainability, and regulatory compliance across the sector.
Among his notable contributions, Bala serves as the lead for the BOMA Enspire Program, a national capacity-building initiative delivered in partnership with Natural Resources Canada under the Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative (DRAI), reflecting his commitment to driving meaningful and measurable progress toward Canada's climate and building performance objectives.
