Haleco, winner of the C40 Reinventing Cities international competition, is a real estate development designed around an ambitious vision of environmental performance, social innovation, and urban resilience. Recognizable for its façade‑integrated artwork by artist Marc Séguin, the project is distinguished by its commitment t monitoring and documenting building performance over a ten‑year period, using indicators related to energy, circular economy, water management, biodiversity, mobility, and social impact.
Awarded LEED Platinum certification in March 2025, the building is fully electric and connected to Energir’s district thermal energy network. It features a high‑performance building envelope and manages nearly 100% of rainwater on site through vegetated retention basins and underground reservoirs. The project also stands out for its circular economy strategies (material reuse and donation, urban tree valorization), extensive active transportation infrastructure, as well as initiatives currently under development, including an indoor urban farm and a partnership with a university‑based research group focused on better understanding and reducing the carbon footprint associated with building use.
